Problem Summary: Desktop Icons & Taskbar Vanishes

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 1545) is loaded with two XPs (one in C and the other being in D drive). The C drive XP is loaded with Bitdefender Total Security Edition 2008 (not pirated but purchased) whereas the D drive XP is without any anti-virus. It so happened that I used a pen-drive in the D drive XP (which is without anti-virus) unaware of the fact that the pen-drive contained malicious software. When I restarted the system later again, the desktop icons and the taskbar vanished moments after appearing. Bewildered I opened the task manager which showed two programs running, namely \"Setup\" and \"lf092c541b4064\". I closed them both with End Task option but the problem persisted. Now, I restarted the system with the C drive XP (which has anti-virus) and performed a Deep System Scan with Bitdefender. It deleted some 25 virus from the system (sorry I forgot to note the names). But as soon as the scan was finished the same problem appeared in this XP as well (the desktop icons and the taskbar vanished and the task manager showed the two above named programs running). I am at my wits end and really don’t know what to do. I can’t afford to format my system since I use the C drive XP for my professional purpose and there are a whole lot of softwares installed and data stored in the system.
