services.exe always the culprit

Problem Summary: services.exe always the culprit
I have an issue with my computer\'s Internet browser freezing. The common issues are the fact that the computer had been running for awhile before the issue strikes and that when checking the task manager, \"services.exe\" is hogging most of the available RAM. When \"services.exe\" isn\'t running, the computer works like new.

The only way to remedy the situation is to reboot the computer at which the services.exe file is listed, but doesn\'t show any activity.

I have an IP Pavillion laptop bought in late 2006. I do not know what windows system is installed...it isn\'t Vista, for sure.

I do have Norton as a virus program.

Thanks for any help on this.
