Problem Summary: Max Spyware

[1] It all started when Avast gave me what I thought (having googled it!) was a false positive. It told me I had a virus SVC:CCALib8>C:...CALMAIN.exe... Severity High... Status Threat... Win32:Evo-gen[suspect]... This has to do with my Canon camera apparently.
[2] Avast has always been very good in the past... but this time when I went in to delete it... it would not do so.. It kept telling me it would when I rebooted / did a Safe Mode scan / a pre-boot scan.... but when I did it would not remove it.
[3] Their help team did not reply to my e-mails for days... and my computer wasn't doing anything weird... so I thought it was probably a false positive as others had said.
[4] I used Malwarebytes and Virus Total... but they did not detect a virus.
[5] THEN... the Avast help team contacted me ... they didn't seem to know what they were doing... said all the obvious (what I had already done) and then told me to get third party Malware detectors to see if they could find anything... that seemed a bit strange. They suggested Malwarebytes which I told them I had used.. then got annoyed because I had not tried them all... so I went to www.combofix.org. When I downloaded that it turned into Max Spyware and only produced a scan of cookies... and kept wanting me to buy the product.
[6] So I decided to remove it. When I tried in ADD/REMOVE it would not let me and just threatened me with another advert to buy its product. I tried several thing but it wouldn't budge.
[7] When I googled it I got http://www.securitystronghold.com/gates/max-spyware-detector.html and downloaded Spyhunter4 and Max Spyware Detector Removal... They both removed loads of stuff... but NOT the Max Spyware or the CALMAIN virus.... So all the money I spent on your products was useless. It was supposed to be a Max Spyware Detector but detected nothing.. it was still sitting merrily in the start up menu.
[8] However, later when I went into safe mode I was able to remove Max Spyware myself... but it put up a fight ... I don't know if the windfind.exe has gone though... and the CALMAIN virus still appears in Avast.

Feel better now I've had a whinge... but would like a refund on the Max Spyware Detector... as it didn't detect.

Regards

Sue

Problem Summary: Unable to remove Max Spyware Download Manager

Several days ago I downloaded and installed Max Spyware Detector because my system seemed to be running slower and I thought I could possibly have spyware and/or malware on my PC.

I ran the program once and it apparently found nothing harmful.I then had to uninstall the program using a third party uninstaller(Revo Uninstall Pro) as I could not do it thru add/remove programs. My OS is Windows XP.

Revo was able to remove the main program, but the programs "download manager" remains. The manager automatically opens when I start my computer and attempts to reinstall the main Max Spyware program again.

I have read at least one post that claims the Max Spyware program itself is actually a virus in disguise.

I have gone in to my system registry to find and delete every instance of the program it could detect. I've had no success doing that and I have run out of ideas.

I would appreciate very much if you could please help me resolve this issue. I can't find any more of the programs files to send you to examine. I guess they are in sections of my PC that I don't know how to access.

Thank You,
Jerry Johnson
