VPN GUI does not display

Problem Summary: VPN GUI does not display
I\'ve found that the client does show in the task list, however it no longer displays a gui to connect. I realise that this could be linked to a number of issues, however it used to work if i restarted the machine, and the only things that i can find that has changed are the MS patches. There is also a possible issue with the services as one does not terminate on shutdown. I\'m still trying to verify but the likely suspect is svchost.exe

Thanks for any responses.
