I\'m running Windows XP SP2 (MCE 2005) on a Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 (1.7 GHz, previously 1GB RAM). Recently my laptop started to seriouly crawl when I\'m online. This was following installation of Visual Studio Enterprise and SQL Server 2008. I initially thought it was inadequate memory, so I upgraded the RAm to 2GB. Unfortunately, the problem remained the same. Subsequently, I checked my Extender Resource Monitor which basically reports 100% CPU usage. I googled online and downloaded a fix from MS website for some incompatibility issue between SP2 and MCE. The situation didn\'t improve at all. What I also notice is that when the CPU is maxed out, avp.exe (Kaspersky\'s) is usually the cuplrit. Unfortunately, I have had my KIS 2009 for about 1/2 year without any problem so I don\'t think the problem is KIS. However, I do notice that Kaspersky has been crashing a lot with messages like \"Appplication filtering cannot be started.\" and \"Some components cannot be enabled.\" When this happens, I get Windows security alert telling me that my computer is at risk because my AV is turned off. I have also not succeeded in sending the crash log to Kaspersky as the application just hangs at 0% send.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1.CD-Rom not installing since purchase on Jan 31, 2009.
2.My PC configuration: Intel-P4 CPU(3 GHz)+Intel-D915-GAVL+ 1 GB RAM+ On-board GPU & Sound +100 GB free HDD+Win-XP-prof_sp3 updated to latest drivers and security issues+ Direct-X-9c+ QT-7.1.5.120.+ Adobe Flash player-10+Adobe Shockwave player-11.
3.The CD-Rom Cover says it requires Win-98/Me/NT/2000/XP OS+ 800x600x16bit colour resolution VDU+ Direct-X sound card+ QuickTime. My PC has it all.
4.Installation tried with/without Kaspersky Internet Security+Anti-Virus-2009, with/without windows firewall, Clean Windows-xp install etc, but without success.
5.Error Message received while loading the following two software from the original CD-ROM:

6.Although it is mentioned on the CD-ROM cover that the CDs are compatible with Windows-XP. These two CD’s are not installing on Windows-XP-prof_sp3, at my end.
7.Web search gave a rough indication that they may run in Windows compatibility mode. Sure enough, the error vanished when the installation files compatibility mode was changed. It finally worked in: properties>compatibility mode>Win-98/Me. It does not work in XP, 2000 or NT mode. The error vanished and it offered to load QuickTime-4 before the software could load and start. After such an install, the CDs load and run effectively.
8.The problem with this mode of operation is that while loading this CD, it does not recognise the QT-7.1.5.120 already loaded on my PC. I am forced to un-install the QT-7.1.5.120 and load QT-4, as and when prompted by the installation procedure of these CDs. Since QT-4 is a very old format, 12 other CD-ROMs stop running, as they need a later version of the QT (for mp3+mp4 support which is not there in QT-4). In addition, it is not possible to keep QT-4 loaded on my PC when QT-7.6 is the recommended current version.
9.Since I purchased the CD’s in Jan 2009 and the CD manufacture date was Jan 2008, I thought it was recent enough and had no Idea that the software within would be so old, probably of 2001 vintage. There was no way I could check the CDs before purchase as they were received by mail order, purchased through Living Media, New Delhi, India.

11.My PC has 2x512 MB RAM modules, these RAM modules have been checked and found to be OK.The PC has been checked to works on one RAM-Module at a time, as also, on both. The graphics and direct-x test passes in all the combination of RAM modules. But while loading this CD the error remains the same in all cases.
12.Also tried the following without success, same error: System Properties> Advanced> performance> settings>DEP> switched off.

13.Is there some fix/workaround to make the install program recognise my Qt-7.1.5 version and later and perform as desired? Else is there some other solution? Such a problem was also there for Encyclopaedia Britannica CD-ROMs, but they had a fix and it works effectively after that.
14.Can I please get a replacement set of the two CD’s or a fix after which I am assured that this bug has been fixed and the CDs can load and run in Win-xp-prof OS normally. Simple replacement of the CDs will not help, as it is not a physical defect issue.
